That Sums It Up

In a comment at Nats 320, Basil sums up the malaise I feel and which I poorly explained last night.

He, as usual, makes some excellent points. A sample:
In light of "The Plan," what the team is doing is giving us the chance to look at these guys from a distance, a bit dispassionately, and evaluate who's really part of the plan long-term and who's a functionary. I'm not going to expend too much passion on functionaries, because for many people (including me) passion and patience are in some tension. I'm in patience mode.

But read the whole stinkin' thing.

  • OK, it is a tough season.

But a case can be made that the hitting numbers will be better at the end of this year than they are right now, and that goes for EVERY position on the team, not just in the aggregate. Just go C, 1B, 2B, etc. and you can project improved BA and power numbers for each position. I don't think you can say the same for any other team.

So despite all the losses and the all-too-few wins, the building is already starting. A pitching infusion can be expected too, this year. Kinda fun!
