So I'm Listening To The Braves Game...

... and they're talking about something or other when Skip Carey and Pete Van Wieren had a quick little exchange:
SC: Did you hear that the Washington Nationals were going to sign John Koncak?
PVW: Nope
SC: Ah, it must've just been a rumor. [pause] Hi, Stan!

Jon Koncak was a crappy backup center that Stan Kasten's Atlanta Hawks signed to an inexplicably overvalued contract that paid him more than Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.

No wonder he hates Free Agency!

  • I look forward to the day when the Braves' announcers, who are unrepentant homers, trash talk more because the Nats are a threat, and not because they are the butt if jokes.

    Patience, patience...

I'll bet Stan K. still kicks himself over this one. He got totally owned by a division rival.

  • Jon Koncak's career with the Hawks had been mainly spent as a wide body in the traffic lane when he became a free agent. The Detroit Pistons shocked the community when they offered him a $13 million contract for four years. The Hawks returned the shock when they matched the offer to keep him. It wasn't Koncak's hard bargaining. He was only a large pawn in the games that these sports geniuses play.

  • I like this paragraph:

"Hawks fans still haven't forgiven management, raining boos on Hawks president Stan Kasten for 15 solid minutes during Wilkins' jersey retirement ceremonies this season."

There's gotta be something perversely enjoyable about being booed by 20,000 people.
