This Just In: Vidro Is Slow

The good folks at USS Mariner are piling on, pulling out some quick numbers to agonizingly figure out how often Jose Vidro is going to hit into a double play this year.

Any Nat fan can tell you that the result isn't surprising.

Maybe they'd be "better" off playing him in the field and hoping he strains his meaty legs instead of saving his health at DH.

I wonder if there's ever been a second baseman in history to have as high a DPs-not-turned-on-defense / DPs-hit-into ratio? (At least since left-handed Roger Connor manned second base for the 1884 NY Gothams)

  • I swear it seems to me like practically yesterday when Vidro was still, dare I say it, good.

His decline hasn't quite been quite as total and precipitous as Roberto Alomar's was, but it feels close.

  • Pretty much any alert Mariners fan saw this coming as well, but that apparently doesn't include the esteemed general manager.

By the way, I don't think it's piling on if they've been criticizing the move all off-season, which they have, vigorously, coherently and repeatedly.

Having said that, I suppose I should forgive Nats fans for a little bit of gloating.

  • It seems almost unfair that they'll never get to hear "past a diving Vidro."
