Still Busy...

Still a busy day, so maybe I'll dump random links here throughout the day, in between trying to sling together three coherent sentences -- something very rare here -- for the part of my life that actually pays.

We've got Spring Training Intrasquad lineups! It doesn't get any better than that!

  • Oooooh! I couldn't let this one pass!
"I've never worked for anyone who was smarter than I am," Bowden said.

(That's why he keeps Bob Boone around.)

  • Today's important lesson: Baseball fans are not like soccer fans.

God Love 'em, but thank God all the same.

    • It is peachy that Mr. Bowden thinks Kasten walks on water and he that has learned so much from him because he is always driven to do the right thing. If Kasten is that great, I wonder why he ran the Atlanta Hawks into the ground? They had one of the worst records in the NBA during his long tenure.

    • You know, I've heard this "Kasten ran the Atlanta Hawks into the ground" stuff before from other Atlanta-area sports fans. I just don't see it, though.

A quick visit to Wikipedia tells me that Kasten was named GM of the Hawks at age 27(!) in 1979, and held the post through 1990. In Kasten's 11 seasons as GM, the Hawks went 490-412. Also, the Hawks hadn't had a 50-win season in 13 years when Kasten took over; the Hawks would go on to have five 50-win seasons in 11 years with Kasten as GM.

Kasten was also President of the Hawks from 1986 through 2003, andI do see where the Hawks fell off a cliff after 1998. But again, in 13 seasons with Kasten President, the Hawks had seven 50-win seasons.

As someone who has followed the "fortunes" of the Washington Bullets/Wizards, I just don't see how Kasten "ruined" the Hawks.

    • The baseball vs. soccer fans blog is retarded. Where did you find that thing? Laugh. The soccer fans look like they are going to start a fire...wasn't there some kind of terrible tradegy involving fire in a sports arena - oh RIGHT that WAS soccer! LOL.

Well when showing Nat fans at least they guy showed RFK on a sell-out day. Won't be too many of those this year. ;)

    • Just got my email from Peter Pumpkinhead's Broadcast Video Monopoly about the MASN/MASN2 channel lineup. Whoohoo! Lucky Comcast customers get to watch both channels on 1950s analog technology! It was brutal watching Nats games last year on my big HD screen; at least now Os fans get to join in the misery. I'm so glad that Comcast and Mr. Pumpkinhead resolved their dispute and Comcast graciously plopped MASN in the low-rent district. What a major league hose job. Congrats, Pete!
