Caution! Junk Stats Ahead

If you're looking for serious content, avert your eyes! (Or click the wonderful links to the right!)

Obviously, you can't take these seriously, they're just kind of fun, but here are the stats our beloved team are on pace for:

Brad Wilkerson: 278 hits. 231 strikeouts. 46 doubles. 69 RBI. 0 SB. 23 CS
Vinny Castilla: 23 home runs. 46 doubles.
Jose Guillen: 69 home runs. 231 hits. 92 RBI.
Nick Johnson: 139 walks. 139 strikeouts. 139 hits. 0 home runs. 46 doubles.
Cristian Guzman: 92 hits in 624 At-bats. 23 SB, 23 CS.

Antonio Osuna: 254 runs allowed. 162 walks. 46 home runs. All in 54 IP.
Livan Hernandez: 270 IP. 185 Ks. 0 wins, 23 losses. (That’d suck!)
Chad Cordero: 46 wins in 115.2 innings scattered over 69 games.
Zach Day: 231 runs allowed in 231 IP. 324 hits allowed(!)

As a team:
463 runs scored; 1041 runs allowed (Rockie-esque!)
Pythagorean Record:
27 wins, 135 losses.

For those that don’t know, Bill James uncovered the forumula that is reasonably accurate in predicting the record of teams based upon the runs scored and runs allowed by a team.

While it’s useless mid-season, as the Nats’ record shows, it’s usually within two or three games for 98% of the teams in baseball by the end of the season. And, if you think about it, it makes sense that the teams that do a better job of outscoring its opponents will have more wins at the end of the season.

The Nats might be able to pound the Braves once in a while, but the Braves, who are clearly a better team, are going to disembowel the Nats like they did last night, with much more frequency. Meanwhile, we're much more likely to eek out a victory, like we did with the Marlins on Saturday.

  • Man, I don't know what's up. My blog works fine, except that I can't post comments. Of all the nights for that to happen.

  • Jesus, Comcast sucks. My connection has been up and down all week. I guess I didn't miss anything BS-wise, at least!

See what good things happen when we actually walk?

As far as the tech thing... Maybe delete the post? I dunno?
