Astacio To The DL
Another day, another pitching injury. Pedro Astacio has been placed on the 15-day DL with a forearm injury (at least it's not a labrum). Astacio will have an MRI (assuming there's room in the budget.)
Strained forearm is usually codeword for tendinitis. But not always. It's also possible there's something wrong structurally, and given Astacio's loooooong history of arm trouble, it's probably just as likely.
In the short-term, the Nats have called up Jason Bergmann (STATS). I'm happy for Bergmann. He pitched pretty well last year, and had a good spring. Presumably, Jon Rauch slides into the rotation, even though the Nats aren't going to need a fifth starter for a week or two.
Were it me, I'd have brought in Billy Traber, to see what he can do, although I can understand the club wanting to give him some more time, and really see what he has in New Orleans. It's not a big deal, and I'm assuming that Traber will get his shot later this spring.
When Billy Traber and Ryan Drese are your big hopes, well, you're probably dealing with a Jim Bowden team!
