Munch On Some Salt

Just passing this along...

I've heard that the Lerner family has been cleared to buy the team, and that they're in the final stages of the process. If the person I'm hearing this from is to be believed (and I do think that they're in a pretty good position to have a clue), this could all happen in the next few weeks.

I ain't a reporter, so I'm not going to do any fact-checkin', and I sure don't mind passing along rumor and innuenedo!

  • From everything I have read and heard, Grandpa Lerner thinks Jim Bowden is a great GM. If that is indeed the case, Lerner has no business owning the team because he is an extremely bad judge of character and talent.

  • This morning on XM 175 Billy Ripken played an interview that Cal did with Selig that had to have been recorded earlier in the week since they have been teasing with excerpts from it all week.

    Thankfully, Cal put The Question to Selig and he said something like "We have 8 groups, they are all very good...and I wish they weren't so good [because it makes the choice more difficult]...We'll get it done very shortly". Of course we have been hearing that for over a year so take that for what it's worth. But Selig did use language that he had not used in the past.

    I just can't wait to hear what his excuse for delaying the announcement will be this time. Remember, Selig is extremely deliberative and wears both a belt and suspenders (just in case) so don't expect him to rush a decision on this issue.
