Jose Guillen And The Slick PR Machine

Distinguished Senators is all over the Jose Guillen debacle from the other night.

Instead of tackling the player angle (we know where he'd stand anyway), he uses it for a comparative look at the coverage from MLB and the Washington Post.

In short, DS thinks that Bill Ladson would be better served mopping up Barry Svrluga's floors.

Ryan's larger point stands. MLB's writers are encouraged to not rock the boat, and you'll rarely get the full story from them.

That's fine if you want to believe that your team is full of angels who love children and saving puppy dogs from fires.

I like dogs and all, but that's not really the kind of world I want to live in.

  • I agree that Jose Guillen is an ass, but I'm not sure I want the idea getting out around all of baseball that pitchers are free to intentionally drill our players with impunity. Even if you don't believe in the old-school idea of instant retalation, isn't a retaliation warranted at some point?

  • Certainly I think the Nats need to plunk someone at some point, but the place for that is not in a 1-0 game (which it was at the time) against a divisional rival.

The issue is Jose's selfishness and his inability to put the team first by fighting with his team mates.
