Where In The World Is Tony Williams?
He’s on his way to Florida, apparently. I guess it was inevitable that he would make an appearance, but I always wonder what the point of these kind of trips are. Is goodwill enough of a reason to spend the money?
At least Jack Evans, who would accompany Williams, realizes this.

Evans said he is not firmly committing to the trip until hearing more details on the funding.
"If this is going to be a huge issue with the budget cycle coming up, I don't want to do it. We'll have to see," Evans said.

While the final Stadium package was the handiwork of Ms. Cropp, plain and simple, there is no MLB in DC without Mayor Williams. Bud Selig would have never come hat in hand to the District Building looking for a new home; in many ways DC was the last place they wanted, but the salemanship of the Mayor was overwhelming.
I am honored to have the Mayor appear in Florida to see some games and am pleased to pay for it, out of city funds. Its not that much in the scheme of things.

It's funny you mention this, Chris. Yesterday, down here in Richmond, it was a big topic on the radio to urge Mayor Wilder to use some city funds ("Those Democrats love to spend money, right?") to fly to Memphis or Louisville or wherever and "see exactly what a downtown park can do for a mid-sized city."
The thought occurs to me that such a trip, even in that circumstance, is just a goodwill trip, too. Presumably, Wilder's got aids to print articles about Memphis off the 'net.
Anyway, better Mayor Williams go to Florida than China, no?
