Twenty Minutes Left

I'm going to bed. If, when I wake up in the morning, I'm not greeted with cheerful news about the Nationals buying out a young man's college education, I'm going to be royally pissed.

Bring your pitchforks and torches to work tomorrow, boys. We're gonna be a-rallyin' in the afternoon.

  • Okay...so what are we gonna get all pissed and cynical about now? I'm sure we can find something.

    Lemonade too sweet?
    Screech too friendly?
Upset because the Nats are going to let the kid go to school?
The parking garage going up at the ball park that will only be available to the rich and famous?

    Oh.

  • Okay Chris...

...I love you as a Nats blogger, and I've said nice things about you over on BTF to the Primates. So now it's time to pony up, boy. You called Ted Lerner a "coward" yesterday - BEFORE the final disposition of any deal - and even then I knew that was horribly premature. I hope to see a nice long, humble, good-natured post with lots of crow-consumption. Because you keep dogging on the new owners (so much so that I've bought into a lot of your spin), and yet they seemingly continue to surprise you with stuff like this.

We got 20 out of 20. We got the best draft haul of any team in Major League Baseball. You have to give a lot of credit to Brown, Rizzo, and (as painful as it must be) Bowden and Kasten/Lerners for that.

Hell, it bugs ME to give those last two credit. But damn...we got everyone we wanted. Props.

  • All these signings make me wonder, should we be losing more this year to get better picks next year? Are we satisfied that the minors will be well enough stocked after this draft? Is it only up from here?

  • I don't think losing more would make that big of a difference. The Nats had the extra picks that became Smoker, Zimmermann, Burgess because they lost Guillen and Soriano. McGeary slipped for signability reasons, and they could theoretically pick a player the same way next year. Losing more at this point is the difference between moving up a few picks.

  • This is absolutely fantastic news. The Lerners have really sent a message to their fans here, and maybe we can all ease up on 'em just a bit. For awhile, at least. ;)

I'm actually smiling at 4 in the morning. And i'm with esoteric-you're the man, Chris. But it's time to pay Teddy & Co. their due.
