It's Smoker!

Thanks to NFA for pointing to the Washington Times' scoop: The Nats have signed Jeff... errr... Josh... errr.. Jerry... J. Smoker, and will announce it a 4:30 press conference.'

In the end, he got $950K.

So how 'bout McGeary? [crickets]

  • Good. I love players who come with nick names built in.

  • mcgeary will want more than that and i don't that would fly with smoker or uncle teddy.

"the Tigers are close to wrapping up . . . sixth-rounder Cale Iorg for $1.5 million. MLB recommends that players taken in the sixth round or later not exceed the slot for the last choice in the fifth round, which was $123,300. Iorg’s bonus is a record for a sixth-round pick, surpassing the $825,000 Quan Cosby received from the Angels in 2001."

  • Bill's right, it's Garth Iorg's son. He was on a Mormon mission for the last two years after playing one season at Alabama.

This is good news about Smoker!

  • Ah, I had forgotten about Duane.

  • bob carpenter's no doubt getting chills down his spine with the mere mention of dane iorg, as he got the game-winning RBI in the infamous game 6 of the '85 World Series, driving in the pinch runner who was on base due to the most obvious blown call in the history of baseball.

i'm sure carpenter still loathes the mere mention of Don Denkinger...

    No Mcgreary.

Is it bad of me to want this kid to hurt himself for wanting more millions? I went to high school with a kid who would have gotten drafted his junior year, but said he wouldn't sign, cause he wanted more money. Then he had a shit Senior year, and now he sits at home. smart.
