Updated Roster Projections

This totals out to $52.3 million for 24 players (assuming minor leaguers where appropriate). If the payroll is $60, as reported last week, that leaves just under $8 million for a starting pitcher. That should be enough money to be competitive for Weaver/Washburn, etc. It may not get them, but their agents won't laugh in our face, at least.

Now if Bowden could ship Jose Vidro back to Omar Minaya for anything.... A boy can dream, can't he?

  • My understanding -- and someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this -- is that unless it's specifically a major-league contract (which would've necessitated putting him on the 40-man initially), then it's considered a signing bonus.

Now, I don't know how the Nats would account for that in their budgeting, but that's a separate issue.

  • Nice summary, but I think your arb estimates for Patterson, Schneider and Johnson are a little bit low - by about $1M each, I'd guess.
