Wilkerson Rumor

Tom Verducci reports that the Yankees are interested in Brad Wilkerson for centerfield. He'd be an excellent fit with their team, but I'd hate to lose him. The Yankees don't have much to offer -- most of their prospects are several years away -- but they've also shown creativity. Maybe there's a three-way to be worked out? Isn't baseless speculation fun?!

If you missed it, I wrote last week why I think the Nationals are looking to trade Wilkerson (and why it's probably a good idea.)

____

Interestingly, Verducci claims that Bowden is still in the running for the LA job:
The Red Sox plan to interview Jim Beattie and Jim Bowden this week for their GM opening. Bowden is also a strong contender for the Los Angeles job, which seems to be the better fit for him. If Bowden leaves -- his contract was extended only through March while the team is up for sale -- Theo Epstein becomes the top candidate in Washington.

  • Wilkerson wasn't pretty in center, but he did get the job done in '05. I do not think he could pull it off in the Bronx though.

  • Compared to Bernie Williams (who has zero range, and zero arm) Brad Wilkerson would look like the offspring of Tris Speaker and Curt Flood.
