The thing about Adam LaRoche is . . .

. . . he's not that good.

Then again, Jayson Werth isn't that great.

So, if the Nats sign LaRoche, at least they're being consistent.

  • He isn't that good and he does even worse when he has to carry a big part of the load (see Pittsburgh). In general going after ex-Pirates is probably not the best way to build a champion.

  • Werth is great, LaRoche is good, and you are Debbie Downer.

  • No, he isn't good, and he certainly isn't appreciably better than Mike Morse. Move Morse to first, trade Willingham, and then give Carl Crawford (also overrated, but what the hell) eleven billion dollars to be your left handed bat. It's not like we don't have plenty of room for more salary.

  • I am with Anon 9:55. Crawford is the bat this team needs. Willingham can't seem to stay consistent (or healthy) for an entire season and Morse can play First Base just as well as LaRoche and probably hit for higher average and more power.

  • I'm giving Rizzo the benefit of the doubt, and assuming he offered similar terms to Crawford as he did to Werth, only to be told 'no way am i going to that ratshit team'.

  • Yeah, but you bring in a front line starter (read, not Carl Pavano) to go with Beardo, and that attitude might change. Giving Werth a contract equal to the GDP of a Latin American country certainly seemed to get Cliff Lee talking again and you gotta think that a Garza/Greinke/Lee plus 7 years would get Crawford back to the table. Never mind that 2015-2018 would be just brutal (the All Social Security Team); we could sign Lee and Crawford to deals as ridiculous as Werth's and just be a smidge above league average in salary. Fuck it; spend the money.
