Zzzzzz
Looks like another trade deadline fizzle.
At least last year, we knew we could look forward to the draft picks.
Seems like they were close with deals to the Mets and D-Backs, but couldn't pull the trigger.
If it was just for Phil Humber, good for Bowden not pulling the trigger. Let the kvetching begin!

I will be bloody pissed if Carlos Quentin was offered but Bowden was too sloshed to pull the trigger.
How long until Rizzo becomes GM?

No takers for Austin Kearns? No one wants his light bat or high salary but Bowden? Shocking. I am glad they kept the Chief, even though it makes little sense to have an upper tier closer on this squad.

Same old Nats roster to take the field now. I dunno if no moves were made because of Bowdens inability to reason, or because there just was limited interest. I just hope none of the scrubs (Logan, Langerhans, Batista, Jimenez, Fick, uh, King, Simontacchi, hmmm, wow thats a lot) come back next year. But thats probably thinking more about the future than Bowden would want to. Hes caught up with this team not being historically bad, and running with it. Ugh.

So what's it gonna take to sign Aaron Rowand?

I am shocked - SHOCKED - that a team that can so successfully corner the market on light-hitting, average-defending, wet-noodle-armed OFs cannot make a successfuly trading move. You'd almost think they'd already been picked clean through their own idiocy...
I hope Trader Jim publishes a revised version of "Teh Plan!!1!!11!" that's just a treasure map to Narnia. It would be more honest than what's going on now.

What's wrong with Phil Humber? Why didn't we take him?

i seriously doubt quentin was offered. would be interesting to know, however. humber's an ok prospect but not a guy to trade two years of chad cordero for (like lastings milledge would be).

I don't understand what happened... There were no Reds available at all?

interesting comments by bodes on the 980 show today. no, i'm not a speed typer, so the quotes are really paraphrases. so sue me!
1. chris marrero will finish the year at potomac. he has power to all fields but should also hit for .300 avg throughout his career as well.
2. detwiler will be in potomac after his next GCL start (interesting). the 18 yr olds will stay in GCL.
3. he claimed there was MORE trade interest in dameethook and belliard AFTER they signed their extensions than before! if true, that at least shows these extensions were at decent market values.
4. he also said a deal for dimitri was coming together with a team that "fell out of it in the last week or so." sounds a lot like minnesota to me.
4. "don't forget post-deadline deals and we will always look at any deal possible."
you go, jimmie!

You would think that Chad could have been moved for some great young talent--unless scouts showed up, read the radar gun, noted all the jams Chad routinely gets into, and reported on the RFK wallscrapers when the games were saved. Well, at least Chad is valuable to us, so I'm OK with it.
