Lease Breakthrough?

WTOP says that MLB and the city have agreed. Now all we need is Council Approval. Hey, weren't we already at this step before?

As much as I would love to be optimistic about this news, I won't believe it until a vote is taken and an owner is named. I think we all know that when it comes to the stadium, you can't trust the circus, otherwise known as the DC City Council.

Chris, long-time listener, first-time caller. Love the blog.

The last paragraph of the TOP story said:

"When the lease arrived at City Hall to be presented to the chair of the Council, the secretary of the Council rejected the document because it was "legally insufficient.""

Anybody know what that means?

They keep updating the story..!

I've been working on a few things this afternoon, so I haven't had a chance to think this crap through, but I bet this would have to do with what's necessary for Council purposes.

Today's the deadline to have the agenda for the 2/7 council hearing. If what they've presented to the council isn't in the proper format, then that will postpone things.

My hunch is from an earlier paragraph that talks about the financial conditions. That is, they're putting the actual details off til later.

I would guess that that has something to do with the city's negotiations with Clark and the other construction companies over the fixed-price stadium contract. (The city would turn over control, and the company would pay for any overruns)

MLB, it seems, is satisfied with what's expected on their end, is wiping their hands, and telling the city 'you figure it out'.

And maybe the Council's lawyers are looking for more details than that?

Just some quick thoughts that I reserve the right to backtrack on later! ;)

Yeah... NBC 4 says it was tossed back on a technicality -- something about supporting documentation. Maybe it's something even more minor? They've got another hour or so.

I hope they don't have to break DuPuy out of his Swedish massage though.
