Game Day: Seo What? Edition

The hated New York Mets are in town (if you couldn't tell by the stench). The Lone Literate Met Fan

Tonight, it's Jay "So" Seo (1-0, 1.50) versus ¡Livan! "I Transcend Petty Nicknames" Hernandez (2-2, 5.34!?)

As always, the chatter's here.

Since the disastrous start, the Mets have played pretty well. Since our amazing start, we've been pretty disastrous.

  • Mr. Met always looks like he's on the toilet . . .

  • No doubt to symbolize the crappiness of his team and its legion of fans.

  • True. And the strange thing is, he always looks happy about it.

Okay, is it me, or does it seem like the Mets usually have a Far East pitcher at the ready?

  • They've certainly had a lot.

Seo, Nomo (he did pitch with them for one year, right?), Kashiwada... I know I'm missing a slew.

I wonder how much of that was the Bobby Valentine influence.

  • Was Masato Yoshii a Met? I could look it up, but it's Friday.

By Blogger Ryan, at 4/29/2005 2:24 PM

  • Yeah, he was.

And I don't know if Kashiwada in Chris's early post is Kaz Ishiiiiiiii, but they've got him too.

(And, yep, Nomo did pitch for them, too---traded mid-98, when Nomo precipitously fell from "mutha" to something quite a bit less. That probably had Bobby V all over it.)

  • No, they had a pitcher named Takashi Kashiwada.... or something like that. He was a reliever for about two weeks.

  • By comparison, the Yankees have had the Fat Toad and . . . nobody, right? But now they've got "Wang," which has to be the greatest baseball last name since, well, I don't know.

  • You also forgot Satoru Komiyama, a 2002 reliever. (I remembered him, but had to look up the name.)
