What is it about internet message boards that usually deteriorate into a measuring contest?

This is from the Nats board on their website. There's a good self-promoter hawking his varations on the Washington logo and name dropping.

I think they're pretty hideous, but to each their own, I guess.

Well, the designer wasn't quite happy with people's reaction, so he starts dropping more names and insulting more fans.

I dunno why I'm a sucker for that kind of stupidity.
