Step1: Build Stadium; Step 2: ????; Step 3: PROFIT!!!

The lease negotiations are coming to a head. The Washington Times reports they're close, as soon as tomorrow. The check's in the mail, huh? Mayor Bowtie says they'll be done this week or next.

Either way, our long Nationals nightmare is coming to a close. Wake me up when it's over.

When the lease gets signed, presumably, MLB will name its ownership choice. The Times article suggest that that could be as soon as next week, but also includes this: "most commission members and city officials said it is much more likely the announcement will come after an MLB owners meeting Nov. 16 and 17."

After? You'd think they'd want to name the group before so that they could take a vote on it. Although I suppose that that could be done via conference call a few weeks later. It's not like we're confirming a Supreme Court Justice. It's more like crowning a new pope!

  • I interpreted the use of the word "after" to mean "following the owners' vote that will take place during the meeting." MLB might not announce the new owner to the public before the other owners have a chance to weigh in.
